Some personal odds & ends

I think I’m feeling too lazy to write about religion or politics today, but here’s some stories from my personal life which might be mildly entertaining.
Good Old-Fashioned Redneck Drama
On Saturday, the day after my mother passed away, my 20-year-old sister Jennifer went over to my father’s home to help him begin clearing out our mother’s belongings. She found my mother’s wedding ring as well as some expensive earrings and placed them in a jewelry box in our spare bedroom. A few hours later, she went into the spare bedroom and discovered the jewelry was missing.
The only people in the house when it disappeared were my father, my sister, my two brothers and my brother’s girlfriend Amanda. It didn’t take long for Jennifer to hone in on Amanda as the culprit, but Amanda adamantly denied taking the jewelry. By the way, Amanda is 17 and my brother is 22, and they’ve been dating for over two years. You do the math.
My father told Amanda that if she would stop lying and turn over the jewelry, all would be forgiven and he would forget the whole thing ever happened, but she continued to deny everything. So my father called the police. When they arrived and began handcuffing Amanda, she finally broke down and admitted to everything. She gave back the wedding ring but said she had flushed the earrings down the toilet so she wouldn’t get caught. She made up some lame story about finding the jewelry on the floor and picking it up for safe keeping, then being afraid to admit having it for fear of being accused of stealing it. In other words, she lies about as well as Bill Clinton does.
BTW, Amanda’s a devout Barack Obama supporter. Just sayin’.
My brother claims he broke up with her—like, for real this time—and my father says if he ever catches her in the house again, he’ll file criminal trespass charges. I took her off the friends list on my MySpace page, which is the ULTIMATE burn to a 17-year-old. BURN! Yes, I know I’m too old for MySpace, tyvm.
Updated Ye Old Wedding Album
When Paul and I got married almost five years ago, I created a Freeservers web site to host all of the pictures from the wedding and sent out the URL with all of the thank-you cards. In the years since I created the site, Freeservers has gone absolutely nuts with advertisements on their free web sites. You get sidebar advertisements, banner advertisements, and pop-ups galore that seem to defy even the most rigorous of pop-up killing software. Looking through the actual pictures became quite the pain.
So, I’ve moved all of the pictures to Facebook photo albums and now the Freeservers URL contains a very simplified directory of those. I’d leave Freeservers altogether, but I want relatives with the old URL to always be able to find the pictures. Here’s the finished product:
Well, I’m back to cleaning and organizing my home for company this weekend.

  1. just gotta say i’m glad i stumbled upon your blog! thank you for posting your articles etc.on interfaith lds marriages. not much else out there so it’s truly a jackpot!
  2. Hi Nanette, I’m happy to hear from you and I’m glad you liked the blog.
No, there isn’t a ton of information on the web about LDS interfaith marriage. I remember looking into it when I myself was considering it, and the lack of information is part of why I started this blog.
It’s nice to hear that I’m at least somewhat successful in my goal, so thank you!
