McCain-Palin closing in on Obama-Biden
There are two Web sites dedicated to predicting the outcome of the electoral college that I like to keep tabs on,www.electionprojection.com and www.electoral-vote.com. The first is run by a Republican and the second is run by a Democrat, but both seem dedicated to providing fair and honest numbers. On September 12, for the first time in this election cycle, Electoral Vote reported that McCain had taken the lead in the electoral college predictions, with McCain holding 270 EVs to Obama’s 268. In today’s update, Election Projection reports that Obama still holds the lead with 273 EVs to McCain’s 265, but that is the closest they have been in EP’s projections so far. The difference is that Electoral Vote is predicting New Mexico for McCain while Election Projection still has it for Obama; the two maps are otherwise identical in state electoral vote outcome.
Perhaps more significantly, EP reports a host of states shifting in McCain’s favor. Previously red states just got redder while blue states grew closer to purple. Even better news for us Washingtonians: for the first time, Rossi has pulled ahead of Gregoire in the gubernatorial race.
Will this week be remembered as a lull in Obama’s march to victory, or the point where the tide turned permanently for McCain? Only time will tell.
