Corneal Abrasion
On Sunday night, I was working on sign language with my two year-old daughter, trying to teach her the sign for “Daddy,” which involves placing the thumb of an open hand to your forehead and tapping yourself with it. Sometimes, when I teach my daughter signs, she gets confused and instead of doing them on her own body or head, she zips over to me or Paul and does them on our body or head. It’s usually very cute, and I always praise her for at least getting it half-right.
As I showed her the sign for “Daddy,” a spark of recognition came into her eyes and she crawled over to me. I thought, “Oh, she’s going to do the sign for ‘Daddy’ on my forehead instead of hers.” That is certainly what she intended to do. What she actually did was poke me in the eye, causing a corneal abrasion.
So, I have a scratch on my eye. It’s extremely painful and my eyes have become very sensitive to light, especially the light of a computer screen. Typing this is killing me.
The doctor says it should heal in a few days. As long as the pain is this bad I will be mostly out of commission.
