Assault on an autistic man in Pierce County, WA
On Saturday, November 8, my younger brother Matthew (age 24) was assaulted by two individuals and their pitbull while he was working outside a Pierce County Burger King location where he has been employed for years. If you’re not disgusted by this, please recall that my brother has severe autism.
I only have the names of his assailants and their ages, and I won’t publish their names until I’ve read the police report. What I’m told by family members (all sketchy, second-hand stuff):
~ My brother was returning from taking out the garbage at the Burger King when a man (age 21) and woman (age 19) approached him walking a pitbull on a leash. They shoved Matthew against the wall and proceeded to yell and jeer at him while the pitbull barked at him and terrorized him.
~ A customer saw the assault from his vehicle and called the police. The suspects tried to flee on foot and he followed them in his vehicle.
~ The police caught them, and both the man and the woman had outstanding warrants and prior arrests, so they were booked.
~ I’m told that assaulting a develmentally disabled individual in the state of Washington is an automatic felony; need to get confirmation on this.
I will update this post with more details once I’ve read the police report. To my brother’s assailants: I hope you’re proud of what you’ve done, and I hope picking on someone with a mental disability made you feel big, because I will be publishing your names here, with WordPress tags, so that anyone who Googles you (y’know, like future employers) will know what you’ve done. And we’ll see you in court.
Please take the details I’ve published with a grain of salt until I’ve read the police report and updated this post.
UPDATE: It’s going to take around two weeks to obtain a copy of the police report, and I may go so far as to pay the fees necessary to access their criminal records while I’m at it. Look for an update on this towards the end of the month.
