Introducing Προστάτις

When I first started ClobberBlog over two years ago, it was pretty much a catch-all for anything that I wanted to blog about: video games, personal events, politics, interfaith dialogue, and topics pertaining to my own religion. Over time, I’ve eliminated most of the first three categories while using ClobberBlog as a focus for the latter two. Over that same amount of time, I’ve come to notice that the posts I do on Mormon-related topics get far more hits and responses than the posts I do on strictly evangelical topics. Little surprise there: most of my readers are LDS and are naturally more interested in their faith than mine. I’m also partially to blame, since I participate in commenting on LDS blogs far more than evangelical ones.
I’ve decided that the time has come to compartmentalize my interests even further, which has meant launching a new blog:
Why the new blog?
I would like to build up an evangelical audience, or at least an audience that is interested in discussing evangelical issues, and I can’t help but worry that if I continue to try and blog about both Mormon and exclusively-evangelical topics at the same blog, my LDS audience will continue to ignore the evangelical posts, while potential evangelical readers will be turned off by the Mormon-related posts. Because frankly, very few evangelicals are as interested in Mormonism as I am. (You don’t have to say it; it baffles me, too!)
All of my current ClobberBlog readers—LDS, evangelical or otherwise—are welcome to participate at the new blog. I will continue to blog on Mormon-related matters and interfaith marriage here at ClobberBlog.
Thanks again for reading, and I hope those who are interested enjoy the new blog!

  1. When I first saw that I thought it was prostatitis (a condition with which I unfortunately have familiarity).
The KJV renders the word “succourer”(!)
  2. I was wondering how long it would take someone to point out how close the word is to prostatitis . . .
When I got the idea for a blog name, I Googled “prostatis blog” to see if anyone else had the name, and the first hit that came up was “Prostatitis Blog.”
I decided to go with it anyways though, especially with my fancy Greek characters.
  3. I am interested in learning more about Evangelicalism outside of LDS-Evangelical dialogue, particularly as I have many friends who are part of the Evangelical movement. The new site has been bookmarked and will be checked regularly.
  4. Alex, I would recommend the Parchment and Pen blog for that. Informative posts, and a good place to “spy” on how Evangelicals debate each other, and what they are talking about and thinking about.
  5. Hard to blog when people keep coming around and foiling your evil plots.
And now I must be off! Thank you everyone! And remember kids to always floss your teeth daily!
  6. I can’t wait to read more at Προστάτις, Jack. Now that I’ve essentially abandoned my old blog (the one listed in your blogroll), I’ve basically hit on more or less the same solution: one blog (Iron in Fire) for rather general Christian issues with an evangelical bent, and another new blog (Study and Faith) devoted to LDS-Evangelical dialogue and related posts.
And I think you’ve picked a perfect name for your new blog as well. Would that I had a knack for that!
  7. JB ~ I took your old blog out of my ClobberBlog blogroll and added Study & Faith to Interfaith and Iron in Fire to Evangelical Thought.
Blog names are difficult. It took me forever to think of “ClobberBlog.” Προστάτις came to me more quickly, but I only thought of the extras (like using St. Brigid in the theme) as I was designing the blog. I like how it came out though.
For the record, I like your “Study & Faith” name. :)
Saturday night, I completed a lengthy post on the NIV 2011 and submitted it to the CBE Scroll for review. If they don’t run it there soon, I’ll run it at Προστάτις.
