Tentative Fall 2010 & Spring 2011 Schedules

I have drafts of my schedules for the remainder of my graduate degree.
Notes on my Fall 2010 schedule:
  • Three of my four professors are egalitarians.
  • I’m taking an independent study reading class on Mormon studies, currently putting together a curriculum for it. I’ve cribbed some syllabi from the Claremont Graduate School of Religion Mormon studies courses to help with this.
  • I’m going to attempt to test out of the general New Testament class so that I can take a Greek class in the fall instead.
  • I may enroll in Theological French I as well.
Notes on my Spring 2011 schedule:
  • This semester mostly consists of thesis-writing, taking the church history comprehensive exam, and thesis defense.
  • I’m supposed to complete a field education assignment on academic teaching. I have no idea what I’ll be teaching or where.
  • I’ll likely go on the Utah trip again if they have it.
  • I may enroll in Theological French II.

  1. As I understand it, it’s a bare-bones French reading class to help future PhD students prepare to read documents in French.
If I’m going to do a PhD, I need to pick up two research languages, the best candidates being French and German. Some colleges might let me get away with knowing Hebrew & Latin & ancient Greek, but probably not.
Thankfully, my husband knows French and will be able to help me along a bit.
  2. Psssh. Like those languages even count when it comes to studying theology! Tell me one theological thing we’ve gotten from people who read or write in Hebrew, Latin, or ancient Greek!
    Wait… Oh, right… Um… Hm.
So why don’t they accept your knowledge of three languages?
  3. I would be interested in hearing/reading more about what you will be studying in your independent study on mormonism. I’m sure you will update this blog – but I hope you will look through a wide range of sources.
