New Year

Okay, 2009.  It’s time to say good-bye to you.
I’ll admit, I may have been a little hard on you when I said hello to you last year. You were actually a pretty good year for me. Over the course of 2009, I:
  • Got into graduate school, with scholarships even
  • Drove a moving truck across the country without killing any deer in Montana or Wyoming
  • Found a pretty cool student job
  • Successfully completed my first semester of graduate school
  • Won a Niblet (and made lots of new friends in the Bloggernacle)
  • Got snarked by the Snarkernacle (sort of)
  • Joined Christians For Biblical Equality
  • Saw my daughter start preschool and have witnessed her vocabulary and talking improve by leaps and bounds ever since
  • Found a local church that I absolutely love and possibly a denomination I may call home indefinitely
Looking back at the things that were on my mind last year, I’m impressed by how much has changed. I still miss my mother, but now I mope about it only occasionally. I feel less attached to the Republican party. I’m not trading my registration in any time soon, but I feel less inclined to agree with every “conservative” platform out there, and I don’t think I can say I’m a yellow dog Republican anymore. And I don’t even play World of Warcraft anymore. I can’t believe I ever gave a damn about the freakin’ Death Knight class.
It’s been quite a decade for me as well. 10 years ago I was a single girl in high school attempting to get into Brigham Young University. Now I have a bachelor’s degree and a husband whom I adore. I’ve lost a mother and gained a daughter and a family of in-laws, three nieces, and a nephew. I’m a very different person now.
I don’t have any resolutions for the new year. Only that I’m going to try to take what God gives me and do my best with it—and hopefully, this time, I’ll do it with less trepidation and whining.
Happy New Year.

  1. I’m going to do the same, Jack: be happy with what I’m given. You can do it! I hope 2010 is very blessed for you. :)
  2. I don’t visit clobberblog much, but greatly enjoy and respect all that you do here and in the Bloggernacle, Ms. Meyers. And, of course, I love your sense of humor.
Keep up the good work. And happy new year.
