Unexciting happenings in my life
So, here’s what’s going on with me:
~ Yesterday marked 2 months since the day my mother died. I still miss her a lot. November is pancreatic cancer awareness month, and I feel like I should be blogging about that, but I just don’t know what to say right now.
~ Completed my application to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in that I’ve submitted the initial application and requested that all of the recommends and transcripts be sent to them. Now all I have to do is make sure they receive all of the materials and wait for a decision.
~ Still working on applications to Fuller Northwest and Multnomah Biblical Seminary, and probably will not submit those until December because I don’t have the money for more transcript and application fees right now. Fuller charges a ridiculous $100 application fee if you apply by paper, $75 if you apply online; for comparison, the TEDS application fee is $25 and Multnomah is $40. Why, Fuller, why? *grumble grumble*
~ The latest news in my family was that my autistic adult brother was assaulted on Saturdayoutside the Burger King where he works. I’m requesting copies of the police report and looking into the criminal records of his assailants, and should have a report on that by the end of the month.
~ We’re very tight financially right now, and going to remain so until the government sends us our tax return (I never filed a 2006 tax return until recently because that was the year Harley was born, and I did not realize how much money the government gives you for being poor andhaving a kid). The IRS keeps moving back the date I can expect my return and has been perfectly useless when I’ve tried to find out why. I can see why everybody hates you, IRS.
~ Harley continues her curriculum of playgroup at the Tacoma Learning Center once a week. In theory she gets a home visit from a teacher once a week, but we’ve had to miss quite a few home appointments due to scheduling troubles as of late. We also sometimes go to a playgroup on Friday mornings with other mothers from my church. Yes, that’s right, I’m making friends outside the Internet; this is new and scary for me. Mary Bridge Children’s Hospitalturned Harley down for speech therapy recently, and I’m working with the Tacoma Learning Center to find out why and get her back on the waiting list. I mean, the fact that she has VCFS alone ought to qualify her, and I suspect that the person who turned her down knew squat about her VCFS diagnosis.
~ We’re taking a trip to Iowa as a family on November 24 to see my husband’s family for Thanksgiving. EDIT: Oh and my awesome liberal agnostic friend Laura who comments here often will be driving from Omaha to Sioux City to visit with us while we’re there.
~ I’ve been going to a Wednesday night Alpha class at my local church, sometimes accompanied by my Mormon husband, which has been simple for my level of study, but not without insight and still great to fellowship with people from my church. I’m a little sad that next week is the last class before we break for the holidays. We don’t start again until January.
~ I’m going to start looking for work and try to go back to work. Soonish.
That’s it for now, gotta get the kid up from her nap.
